Notably, Egypt has increased the scope of its most recent version of the Beit Al Watan (Homeland House) initiative, raising the total number of land plots allocated to Egyptian citizens who live abroad to about 15,500, as a result of greater-than-expected demand on the part of expatriates.

This was revealed by Walid Abbas, Deputy Minister of Housing for New Urban Communities, at the seventh conference for Egyptians Abroad. According to him, the increase is based on instructions from the Minister of Housing, Randa El Minshawy, concerning additional housing and investment options for Egyptian citizens abroad.

The current, eleventh phase of the Beit Al Watan initiative was initially launched with 4,543 plots. However, the government decided to more than triple the allocation after witnessing high demand, allowing a greater number of overseas Egyptians to purchase land in Egypt’s new cities.

Introduced in 2012, the Beit Al Watan programme enables Egyptians living abroad to buy residential plots in foreign currency. According to the Ministry of Housing, more than 43,500 plots have already been allocated across 25 new cities through the first ten phases and the supplementary tenth phase. Officials said the latest offering has also been designed to improve transparency, fairness and equal access during the allocation process.

During the conference, Abbas also revealed that preparations are underway to launch the third phase of the “Your Home in Egypt” initiative. The programme, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry for Egyptians Abroad, will offer residential and administrative units in several premium developments tailored to expatriate investors and homeowners.

Officials said both initiatives form part of Egypt’s broader strategy to attract investment from its overseas community while supporting urban expansion. The Housing Ministry plans to continue improving digital reservation and allocation systems to simplify the purchasing process and enhance services for buyers abroad.

At the conclusion of the session, ministry representatives met with members of the Egyptian diaspora to discuss questions, complaints and proposals related to both programmes. Abbas said the government would review the feedback and work to remove administrative obstacles, reaffirming its commitment to expanding real estate opportunities for Egyptians living overseas.
