Saudi Arabia Condemns Continued Attacks by Iran-Backed Militias in Iraq Targeting Kingdom’s Facilities

Saudi Arabia has strongly decried, it said, the attack conducted by the Iran-backed militias operating in Iraq, accusing the groups of attempting to target critical infrastructure and threatening regional security.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the latest hostile actions against the Kingdom, reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s right under international law to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, citizens, and vital facilities. The statement also called on the international community to take a firm stance against activities that undermine stability across the Middle East.

The condemnation follows recent drone attacks aimed at oil facilities in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed the unmanned aircraft before they reached their intended targets. Riyadh attributed the attempted strikes to Iran-backed armed groups based in Iraq and warned that those responsible would be held accountable.

Saudi officials said the repeated attacks represent a serious escalation that not only threatens the Kingdom’s security but also poses risks to regional energy infrastructure and international economic stability. The government stressed that safeguarding critical energy assets remains a national priority given Saudi Arabia’s role as one of the world’s leading oil exporters.

The Foreign Ministry reiterated that Iraq should prevent its territory from being used as a launchpad for attacks against neighboring countries, emphasizing the importance of respecting state sovereignty and strengthening regional security cooperation. Riyadh also urged greater international efforts to deter armed groups responsible for cross-border violence and protect civilian infrastructure.

The latest diplomatic response comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, where attacks involving drones and missiles have increased concerns over energy security and maritime trade. Regional analysts warn that continued assaults on strategic facilities could disrupt global oil markets and further complicate efforts to reduce tensions through diplomatic channels. Recent developments have already prompted Saudi Arabia to reinforce security around its energy infrastructure while maintaining close coordination with international partners.
