Samsung Electronics stated its latest model, the Galaxy Z Fold8 smartphone, is seven generations of development, with engineering improvements shaped by years of research feedback and hardware refinement to make foldable devices more durable and practical for everyday use.
On the launch of their latest foldable device, Sunghoon Moon, Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business’ (MX) EVP & Head of Hardware R&D, stated that the Fold8 has benefited from learnings gained since the first foldable phone from Samsung was launched back in 2019. As stated by Moon, each one of those generations has been instrumental in the development of design, hinge mechanisms, display resilience, heat dissipation, and batteries.
Samsung said one of the key upgrades in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the introduction of Flex Titanium, a material designed to strengthen the device while reducing weight. Engineers also redesigned the internal structure to improve durability without compromising portability. The company noted that optimizing battery placement and internal components enabled a slimmer profile while maintaining performance and battery life.

The Fold8 also benefits from refinements to Samsung’s display technology. Improvements to the hinge mechanism and flexible display layers are intended to reduce the visibility of the screen crease while delivering a smoother opening and closing experience. Samsung said these changes are the result of continuous testing and feedback gathered over several product generations.
Beyond hardware, Samsung has continued to optimize software for multitasking and productivity. The latest foldable integrates Galaxy AI capabilities with an interface designed to take advantage of the larger internal display, allowing users to run multiple applications simultaneously and use AI-powered tools more efficiently. The company says the combination of hardware and software improvements reflects its long-term strategy of positioning foldables as premium productivity devices rather than niche smartphones.
Samsung remains the global leader in the foldable smartphone segment, although competition has intensified with new devices from Chinese manufacturers and the anticipated arrival of additional premium foldables. By emphasizing durability, usability, and engineering maturity, the company hopes the Galaxy Z Fold8 will encourage more consumers to adopt foldable technology.
