The train that goes from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah and back three times each day arrives in less than two hours. Families, couples and groups of friends have increasingly chosen the rail service for short getaways, describing the journey itself as part of the holiday experience. Travellers told local media that the uninterrupted views of sand dunes, mountain tunnels and the Gulf of Oman make the route unlike any road journey in the UAE, while the comfortable cabins provide an opportunity to relax, read or spend quality time together.
The service is also proving attractive because of its convenience. Introductory fares begin at Dh55 for the Comfort Class and Dh120 for Premium Class, with passengers benefiting from guaranteed seating, onboard Wi-Fi, power outlets and seamless connections to local transport through shuttle buses, taxis and other public transit services. Officials say the railway is designed to integrate with existing transport networks, making onwards travel easier after arrival.
Etihad Rail launched its first passenger route between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah in June, marking the beginning of the UAE’s national passenger rail network. The next phase will extend services to Dubai and Al Dhaid later this year, followed by additional stations across the country as the network expands toward its long-term goal of connecting 11 cities and regions.
Transport planners believe the rail network will not only improve daily commuting but also encourage domestic tourism by making destinations more accessible without relying on private vehicles. As more routes become operational, Etihad Rail is expected to reshape how residents travel for both work and leisure, offering a sustainable alternative to long-distance driving while showcasing the UAE’s diverse landscapes.
