The temperature in the UAE has reached around 50°C, but a few areas have faced summer rainfall. The National Centre for Meteorology has confirmed that cloud seeding missions were carried out whenever the weather conditions allowed to enhance natural precipitation.
As per the NCM, the UAE is currently going through the peak of a convective weather condition, allowed to enhance natural precipitation. However, the weather system is expected to gradually lose strength and move further south. As per the forecaster, over time, cloud formation and isolated rain are still expected across the western region and parts of Al Ain.
Through rainfall, get relief from the summer heat, but meteorologists expect that cloud seeding does not create rain on its own. Instead, aircraft are deployed only after meteorologists identify naturally occurring rain-bearing clouds. The operations are designed to increase the size and number of water droplets within existing clouds, improving the likelihood that rainfall will reach the ground.
Weather experts explained that extreme heat can actually contribute to thundercloud development by intensifying surface heating, which helps warm air rise into the atmosphere. However, rainfall occurs only when this process is combined with sufficient atmospheric moisture, upper-level instability, humid air masses, and favorable wind conditions. These ingredients have aligned over the UAE in recent days, producing localized showers, thunderstorms, and occasional hail in several eastern and western areas.
The latest wet spell follows several days of unstable weather across the Emirates. Earlier this week, heavy rain, strong winds, and blowing dust prompted weather alerts in parts of the country, while hail was reported in areas including Masafi and locations north of Al Ain. Wind gusts also reduced visibility in some regions as convective clouds developed during the afternoon.
Although rainfall during the height of summer may appear unusual, the NCM says such weather events are a recognized feature of the UAE’s climate when atmospheric conditions become favorable. Forecasts indicate that rain chances will gradually decrease as the upper-air system weakens, though isolated showers may persist in parts of the country over the coming days.
