Maritime Security Center Issues Crucial Boat Safety Directive Across Oman to Prevent Sea Incidents

The Oman Maritime Security Center (MSC) has put out a national safety notice for all passengers and vessels that operate in the waters of the Sultanate, noting that balancing weight properly and having all members follow instructions is critical to avoid individuals falling into the water or the boat losing control in the process.

Balance on the ship is essential in ensuring overall stability of the vessel in the water, especially when it comes to operating at high speeds or dealing with difficult sea and high wave conditions. Passengers were advised not to stand when the ships were going at high speeds, sit on the outer edge or bow of the ship, and occupy one side of the boat only.

Sudden shifts in weight can cause severe vessel instability or unexpectedly throw passengers into open water.

Furthermore, official maritime guidelines highlight the absolute necessity of full compliance with safety instructions issued by vessel captains and certified crew members. Passengers are urged to remain seated in secure interior areas, avoid erratic movements, and refrain from moving between sides while sailing to minimise physical hazards during turbulent transit across Omani coastal waters.

The security warning coincides with recent emergency marine interventions conducted by the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard Command. Search and rescue units recently deployed off Al Qurum Beach in the Wilayat of Bausher, successfully retrieving three individuals whose kayak capsized in open water. In a separate incident off Silver Jubilee Park in the Wilayat of Suhar, a patrolling Coast Guard unit rescued a child in distress and administered immediate emergency first aid on site.

With coastal recreation, water sports, and marine transport experiencing steady engagement across Omani governorates, the Maritime Security Center reiterated that proactive passenger cooperation, awareness of local ocean conditions, and strict adherence to established maritime safety protocols remain essential to protecting human lives and preventing maritime accidents across Omani waters.
